Our wines

Our grapevines grow in Podersdorf on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl. Firmly rooted in the soil, nurtured by the sun, rain, and wind. From their grapes, we craft wines that precisely reflect the life (the rhythm of nature) around the lake.

The color of summer

The dry heat and warm summer winds cause the many small salt ponds to dry up every year. The pond bottom then shines very brightly, somewhat sandy gray. During this time, we – like the vines – long for cooling and refreshment. That’s exactly when our light, fruit-forward wines taste best. For this reason, Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner, Sämling, Muskat Ottonel, Rosé Blaufränkisch, Rosé Cuvée, and Zweigelt bear the color of summer.

“Our grapevines grow along the lakeshore, surrounded by reeds and salt ponds.

They bask in the sun and the wind, absorbing the soil’s uniqueness and the distinctiveness of the Pannonian climate.

And that’s precisely what they exhibit as wine in the glass. Distinctive, flavorful, and multi-layered – just as wines from the lake should be.”

The color of the lake

Even though Lake Neusiedl changes the color of its waters with each season, it remains the same. This constancy, the power of the waves, their gentleness, and the mood that enchants us at sunrise and sunset – each time, it’s an experience. Our reserve wines also reflect this constancy. The red wines are robust and full-bodied. They require time, possess potential, and can surprise and delight us. They accompany us and become even more intriguing and multi-layered with the years. The white reserve wines, Grauburgunder and Chardonnay, demonstrate how wines from the lake can taste as well. One just needs to embrace them, take the time to enjoy and discover.

The color of the soil

A subtle sandy brown reveals the earth in which our vines take root. The soil in the vineyard is constant and enduring. The wine varieties that carry the color of the soil are rich, subtly fruit-forward, and complex. These are our Burgundy wines: Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), and Chardonnay, as well as the red wine classics Blaufränkisch, Blauer Zweigelt, and Sankt Laurent. These wines are companions for good food and cozy gatherings. We do not seek quick refreshment when we open a bottle; instead, we look forward to moments of enjoyment when we pour ourselves a glass.

The color of the location

Just as the reeds grow in very specific places between the ponds along the lake, our single-vineyard (Rieden) wines are site-specific as well. Single-vineyard wines are long-lasting and enduring. They display independence and character and require patience and time to mature, so they can show us what they are made of. You have to discover them, just like the location (Ried) where they grow.

Zweigelt Ried Seeweingärten – very close to the lake yet right in the heart of the village. Our house vineyard – a matter of the heart! Blaufränkisch Ried Lüss – our oldest vineyard at 48 years old – a legend! Its grapes were used to make the first barrique wine of our winery over 30 years ago. Grauburgunder Ried Rohrjoch – grows in the oldest vineyard of Podersdorf am See. Wine cultivation in this location has been documented since 1782-1785 (Josephine Land Survey). Grauburgunder (also known as Ruländer or gray monk) is the most historically significant variety of our winery. It was cultivated by the Cistercian monks in Podersdorf am See.
